The Best Crabbing in the Outer Banks
Do you love blue crabs? Then you will certainly love what the Outer Banks has to offer, with blue crabs available nearly everywhere you go. If you are near the Corolla area, I highly recommend a trip to Currituck Heritage Park by Whalehead for some good old fashioned OBX crabbing. When you enter the park, turn right and follow the road to the end. Our favorite place to crab in the Outer Banks is along the historic bridge to the right of Whalehead Club. However, you can crab off of any pier or bank and find a good catch. Are These Berries Safe To Eat?
Chances are you have run across these delicious looking berries while visiting the Outer Banks. They look so good, but are they safe to eat? Absolutely! We have been picking black raspberries in Corolla for years, starting as early as May. Each year we find more plants, although some years the fruit is larger than others. If you go black raspberry picking in the Outer Banks, be careful of the sharp thorns as you reach for the fruit. Be sure you don't brush against any poison ivy as you pick this wond... -
Things to Do in Hatteras and Ocracoke
Hatteras Island and Ocracoke are two must-see areas in the Outer Banks. Imagine driving south on State Highway NC-12 until you can’t go any further. This is an easy day trip that will bring you through the villages of Rodanthe, Salvo, Waves, Buxton, Avon, Frisco and Hatteras. At the end of Hatteras Island you can take a ferry to Ocracoke, a beautiful island containing a lighthouse, historic buildings and breathtaking wildlife. What can you do in Hatteras? Start with water sports such as surfing, kayaking, paddle boarding, kite boarding and body boarding. For the more adventurous, you can camp in Frisco or on Ocracoke Island. Be sure to bring your s... -
Climbing the Currituck Lighthouse
Looking for something to do in the Outer Banks? The lighthouse in Corolla is a great place to get an amazing view of the Outer Banks. It costs $7.00 per person to climb the Currituck Beach Lighthouse. Children 7 and under are free with an adult. The stairs are see-through grates, making it a bit of a challenge for those who are afraid of heights. Not that I would know. <busted> ...
