How to Catch a Puffer Fish in the Outer Banks
Can You Eat OBX Puffer Fish? In one word, yes! The blowfish you see caught in OBX is most commonly the Northern Puffer Fish. The Northern Puffer has a smooth appearance, yet the skin is similar to sandpaper. They are lightly spotted, but when blown up have beautiful golden yellow tiger-like stripes. Northern Puffer Fish may look inedible but are actually the local angler’s tasty secret. Personally, I am not one for “fishy” tasting fish. Puffer fish is far from it.
