Surprisingly, in all the years we have lived in Corolla it has been difficult to find a really good cup of specialty coffee. Just a simple cappuccino was impossible to acquire. The Outer Banks Coffee Company was just down the street, however it always seemed to be closed every time we stopped by.
That is, until now. Outer Banks Coffee has a new owner who keeps the doors open when you need a shot of java the most. For me you could define that as “all the time.” This coffee shop is now our regular Saturday afternoon stop in between beach trips. It’s just that good.
The Outer Banks Coffee company has been open since 2000. When you walk in you may notice a large green coffee roaster right in front, attesting to the freshness of their delicious coffee.
I’ve never purchased the coffee beans, but I’ve seen many people stream in for huge bags of wonderful smelling coffee. Before the end of the season I plan to treat myself to a bag of their freshly roasted Arabica beans.
Renters stop by for cups of specialty coffee drinks while they wait for their cottages to be open on Saturday or Sunday. Wi-Fi is available for a fee, and tables are there for the Coffee Company’s customers. Their pastries and chocolates are a tasty companion to the fresh roasted coffee.
My mother’s regular order is a medium iced coffee “with room for cream.” Mine? A medium iced mocha, sometimes with whipped cream on top if I’m feeling a little wild. The iced mocha is rich, dark and sweet. I highly recommend it.
While you are there, be sure to say hello to the owner. He is friendly, helpful and gives me a break when I order the wrong thing. (Did you mean to order the latte? Didn’t you want that iced? Don’t you mean the mocha?)
You can find Outer Banks Coffee at 807-L Ocean Trail. For those who know Corolla, they are located in the strip in front of Food Lion, just next to Corolla Surf Shop.
While you are there, be sure to wave to the coffee cam!

Thanks for the tip! We will be sure to check it out next week and purchase our coffee from there. Being a small business owner myself, I love to support the local small business’ whenever I travel!
