  • Jellyfish Vacationing in the Outer Banks

    Yes, this weekend the Outer Banks brought cold water temperatures, a few sea lice and thousands of red jellyfish.  However, by Saturday late afternoon the surf was up, there were fewer jellyfish and the water temps were simply balmy. After a brief swim I took a video of the jelly fish in question in Corolla.  This guy was swimming happily in a tidal pool created during high tide.  Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water!   • Who Ordered The Jelly?

    This weekend we thought we finally had a chance to swim.  Between the cold water and off shore wind, swimming has been almost rare during our Outer Banks summer.  This morning brought rough water and choppy waves, however this afternoon things seemed to be calm enough for an ocean swim. This Sunday may be the beginning of Shark Week on TV, however on our beaches it is in reality (queue the Jaws theme song) JELLYFISH WEEK. The water was beautiful, the wind calmer but our swim was brief for fear of stings.  My diehard body boarder stayed in for a few hours, but came out with minor sting marks to prove it.
