Sand Holes are Deadlier than Shark Attacks
Nothing seems more innocent than digging holes in the sand with your children. Yet nothing can be more dangerous. Children have died in sand holes that were only three feet deep. For some parents, digging holes in the sand equated to digging their own children's graves. And sadly, this has happened to many families during summer beach vacations – including the Outer Banks. As residents, we have seen hundreds of holes dug in the sand. Children and their parents will build sand cities, sitting in the middle of a three foot to sometimes eight foot hole. But sadly, some of these holes have instantly collapsed on children, killing them within five minutes...
